Mexico Solidarity and
Action (MESA)
Welcome to our site! You'll find extensive
information here about how Maryknoll Lay Missioners working
in Mexico have joined efforts to form an integrated response
to poverty which we call Mexico Solidarity and Action
- MESA. "Mesa" means "table" in
Spanish. The MESA we create here is a round table to which
all are invited. Pull up your chair to MESA.
Special Times - Urgency - Integrated
Response
We live in special times. Elder campesinos (farmers) in Oaxaca
notice that migrating birds are arriving in February when
they normally arrive in May. Corn genetically-altered in high
tech US labs threatens local varieties of Mexican corn cultivated
and nurtured for as long as 9000 years. Scientists and even
the Pentagon report that our world's industrial emissions
will bring about climate changes making large parts of the
inhabited world unfit for human life. The gap between the
rich and poor in Mexico and throughout the world increases.
The quality of life for all, and especially for the poor,
continues to deteriorate. Humanity has faced prior calamites,
but never before on a global scale. The poverty in Mexico
mirrors the poverty in Thailand and Kenya and elsewhere as
a visible symptom of the fundamental problem affecting all.
Our site informs you about what is happening
here in Mexico and how what happens here reflects alarming
global trends which impact all of our lives.
We invite you to join us, building life with
dignity in Mexico.

We're happy to announce and invite you to
read The
Other Game: Lessons from How Life is Played in Mexican Villages.
Released April 2008. By Maryknoll Lay Missioners Phil Dahl-Bredine
and Stephen Hicken. 191 pages.
